GET DUSTED - PRIDE

Get Dusted is Springfield's foremost drag occasion drenched in glitter and hair spray and sporting 6in heels (and sometimes a beard.) I've photographed the event off and on for the last year or so. The queen mother, Crystal Methyd, rallies her troop of equally bodacious bitches and the only consistency is the delicious depravity that ensues.
This particular night was the day Springfield came together to celebrate Pride month. After a full day of celebrating on the square, people began pouring into The Outland Ballroom. It was so packed that once the queens came out and the show really got going, it was hard for me to move from my post at side stage near the stairs.  There was no air conditioning but the crowd didn't care. The energy was so strong it moved in waves like the ocean over and under and through the crowd into the performers. Each performance was powerful and unique, self expression at it's finest. In spite of everything going on in our country, Pride remains the same. A day to embrace your uniqueness, no matter what that looks like, and wear it like lipstick for the world to see.
It was an honor to be a part of this occasion, this night, this team of people. I hope every one who sees this blog post can feel a piece of what it felt like to be there.

xx
